AAUP and AFT Facts:
First Class Travel for Them -
Dues for Us.

We already know that nearly half our dues would leave Athens if a union passes, but the more important question is what are they funding? Highly paid national executives who travel first class.

The American Federation of Teacher's (AFT) President, Randi Weingarten is one of the highest paid union leaders in the country including $488,956 in compensation and an additional $88,456 in other compensation. (Source: ProPublica)

Of the 339 reported National AFT employees last year, the average individual made more than $140,000.

AFT also funds first class tickets for its executives so long as the flight is 2 hours or more. Columbus to Orlando? First Class. Columbus to Boston? First Class. Further, AFT executives are allowed to fly family members in economy tickets on AFT's budget so long as the overall tickets are the same price as the first class ticket.

While you have to give up .75%-1% of your salary you can rest assured that your AFT executives are traveling comfortably and utilize their in-house travel agent to book their travel. And when they're not on the road spending your dues on first class travel, they also receive part of your dues in the form of monthly housing allowances.

We forgot to mention, that AFT also keeps not one but two travel agents on-staff to help assist their employees in their first-class bookings. (Source: AFT Form LM-2)

Redundant AAUP Leadership?

The American Association of University Professors has an additional management team including the Executive Director who made $256,435 in compensation with an additional $50,467 in other compensation. Why does the AAUP need highly paid executives? This redundant second layer of management means your dues must cover both the AFT's employees as well as the AAUP's employees. (Source: ProPublica)

The average AAUP National employee makes $103,000+ a year.
